What does our being Christian have to do with it?

There is nothing new about this way of looking at how we live in this world. Within the Christian tradition we have many accounts in scripture outlining how we are to relate to one another. We learn too that the way we care for one another is the way we live our faith.

Look at these texts.

Acts 4:32-35
All the believers were in one heart and mind. No-one claimed any of his or her possessions as their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon hem. There were no needy persons among them. From time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone in need.

James 4:14-17
What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have good faith but has no good deeds? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes or daily food. If one of you says to them, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing to help their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action , is dead.

Matt 25:35-40
"I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink...In truth I tell you, in so far as you did this to the least of mine, you did it to me."
