There really is no excuse for monarchy. Whether they think do it for the good of the nation or for their own pockets is beside the point. The stuff about stable government is rubbish; the occasional revolution means a fresh start and is actually better, for it means we are not 'forever in their debt' as the cynical Haig- fund poppy -appeal would have it. One USA political magazine called the royal family the person- ification of 'tight-assed tweedy rectitude'. Frankly, when we've got rid of these greedy posers, we'll wonder how we put up with them for so long. When you hear a point of view, always look at who is expesssing it. In my experience, only two types of people are monarchists; they are either rich & powerful (which means they have a lot to lose in a republic) or they're poor & stupid (that may seem harsh but frankly a poor person who supports the monarchy cannot be very clever). Think about it. I can't recall any exceptions to that rule. The fact that a lot of old people seem to like the greedy, unpleasant, Queen Mother is irrelevant. Old people have had their lives, and if they don't have anything good to pass on to the young, they should stop bothering them. I think that expecting children to parade before the QM is disgraceful. Kids should not be forced into this sub-politics.
