Organisation of the SchoolWhen entering the school ate the age of eleven, pupils are placed in teaching groups according to their ability. For the purpose of teaching, pupils have been allocated to one of two ability bands, Band A or Band B. Each of the Bands contain equal ability groups with Band A of higher ability than Band B. The placings are based on the result of tests in English, Mathematics and Science (the results of the National Curriculum S.A.T.'s Tests), combined with guidance received from the Headteachers and class teachers of the Primary schools. There is a high degree of mobility between the bands and teaching groups in the first three years. Certain departments have the facility to set the children into teaching groups according to the children's ability in a particular subject. Registration / Pastoral groups or forms are arranged on a social basis. The registration froms contain the same proportions of children from each of the teaching groups. If a pupil needs to move from one teaching group to another, they do not change their registration form and thus retain friendship links. The School Day
