Rewards, Rules and DisciplineThe discipline in the school tries to reflect the ethos of a Christian educating community. The purpose is to develop the character of the pupils to enable them to respect themselves as individuals created by God and thereby to respect other people, their property and their belongings. For excellent work, outstanding contributions, consistent effort, representing the school, fund raising, honesty, success, courage and other qualities, children are praised verbally or in writing or mentioned at Assemblies of pupils in the School. There is a MERIT CARD system and all pupils in Years 7 to 11 can have their Merit Card signed by Staff for the above qualities and Merit Award assemblies are held at the end of each term. Courtesy towards adults and fellow pupils is an essential element in a happy, contented, hard working school community. For disobeying rules or instructions, pupils will be reprimanded and invited to apologise to those injured. For minor offences teachers are empowered to use a variety of sanctions. For more serious cases of persistent underachievement or bad behaviour pupils will be referred to their Head of Year and parents will be informed. Pupils may be deprived of their free time by detention. In extreme cases, exclusion from school may be necessary and parents will always be contacted in this case. |
