History of the School

On Saturday, 19th June, 1965, the Reverend Joseph F. Cleary, Bishop of Cresima and Auxiliary Bishop of Birmingham, officially opened the school.  He prayed for a blessing on all who assemble, teach and study here.

The name

The name "Painsley" was chosen because it had a common link with all the parishes which cover our school community.  From Painsley Hall, Draycott, one of the Draycott family houses, came a "Painsley and Draycott Mission", which served the neighbouring areas and from which grew those parishes which are now connected with this school.

Arrangements for Parental/Pupil Visits

Parents may visit the school any time, by prior arrangement, to view the facilities and discuss entry.

Two Open Evenings will be held, one in October for prospective and interested parents and one in July for new parents and children who are coming to the school in the September.  Details of these meetings are sent to parents via the feeder primary schools as well as being advertised through the parishes and in the local press.  Parents will be able to tour the school, visit the various departments and meet teachers who will be pleased to answer any questions.

"Good information is provided for parents ... parents are supportive of the work of the school."

Ofsted, April 1997

Every effort is made to help pupils make a smooth transition from the Primary School to the High School.  Feeder Primary Schools' Sports Activities are arranged at times spaced through the year.  Arrangements are also made for pupils to make familiarisation visits to Painsley.  Pupils from the Primary schools participate in Painsley's Gymnastics Festival in the Spring Term.  An Induction Day for all the children who are coming to Painsley will be held.  This will enable the children to spend a day at Painsley in order to sample a normal school day.  Hopefully, many of the fears and anxieties about the start of their High School life in September will be removed.
