If someone commits a crime, and is caught, then they will receive a punishment. Here are some kinds of punishment.

Hard cases

Here are some cases which come before a court.

Theft

Doris has been caught shoplifting. She had stolen items even though she had enough money in her purse to buy them. The court is told that her husband died three months ago.

Murder

Jim is accused of murder. He return home from work early one day and found his wife in bed with another man. He stabbed the man with a kitchen knife and killed him.

Murder

Darren is accused of murder. He and three friends kicked a rival supporter to death outside a football ground. All four of them were drunk at the time.

Theft & Assault

Stephen, who is 17, mugged an old lady and stole her pension. She was shaken, but not injured.

Drink driving

Fred, 40, married with two children, accidentally ran over and killed a pedestrian. He has been drinking and is found to be over the limit.

Burglary

Sarah is caught breaking into a house. It is discovered she has burgled several houses. She admits that she steals items and sells them to pay for her drug-taking.
