CAFOD is the short name for the Catholic  for Overseas Development. It was set up in 1962 by the Catholic Bishops of and Wales. It helps to raise funds to support projects for people in other countries.

Twice a year - in and in Lent - Catholics in parishes and schools take part in Family Day. They give up some food for that day and give the to the fund. Fast Day helps raise about £20 million per year.

CAFOD supports about 1,000 projects in 75 countries. There are such projects as clean , health care, growing crops, and education. CAFOD tries to change attitudes as well as give practical help.

The idea of the projects is to help people to help.

There is a saying which sums up the work of CAFOD

‘If you a man a fish, he will eat once. If you a man to fish, he will eat for the rest of his life.’
