The Miracle of the Loaves

Read this story from Mark’s Gospel

Jesus was teaching the people in a far away place.

It was getting late, so his disciples asked him to send the people away to get something to eat.

But Jesus said, "No, you give them something to eat."

But the disciples said to him, "That would cost eight months’ wages! We can’t spend that much on all of them."

"How many loaves do you have?" he asked. "Go and see."

When they found out, they said, "Five - and two fish."

Then Jesus told them to make the people sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties.

Jesus took the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to give to the people. After that he divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were full up.

The disciples picked up twelve baskets of broken pieces of bread and fish.

Altogether there were five thousand people there.
