The Glorious Mysteries

The Glorious Mysteries are about Jesus’ resurrection and the way Mary and all Christians can live with him in heaven. The stories of the Resurrection, Ascension and Pentecost are in the New Testament. The Assumption and the Coronation of Mary are ways in which the Church says it believes that Mary is the first of all who believe in Christ, and all believers will join him in heaven. The readers for these mysteries show that belief.

  1. The Resurrection Luke 24:36-43
On the first day of the week, Jesus rose from the dead and appeared to his disciples.
  2. The Ascension Luke 24:44-53
Forty days after his resurrection, Jesus returned to heaven.
  3. The Day of Pentecost Acts 2:1-13
God gave the gift of the Spirit to his Church on the Day of Pentecost, 50 days after Jesus rose from the dead.
  4. The Assumption Revelation 12:1-6
Mary joined her Son in heaven.
  5. The Coronation of Mary Judith 13:23-25
Mary is crowned ‘Queen of Heaven’ as a sign that all human beings can also share in the wonderful life of heaven.
