Texts for 'Son of Man'
Mark 2 :1-12
- When Jesus returned to Capernaum after some days, it was
reported that he was at home.
So
many gathered around that there was no longer room for
them, not even in front of the door; and he was speaking
the word to them. Then some people
came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of
them. And when they could not
bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the
roof above him; and after having dug through it, they let
down the mat on which the paralytic lay. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the
paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."
Now some of the scribes were sitting
there, questioning in their hearts, "Why does this fellow speak in this way? It
is blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
At once Jesus perceived in his spirit that
they were discussing these questions among themselves;
and he said to them, "Why do you raise such
questions in your hearts? Which is
easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are
forgiven,' or to say, 'Stand up and take your mat and
walk'? But so that you may know
that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive
sins" -- he said to the paralytic -- "I say to you, stand up, take your mat and
go to your home." And he
stood up, and immediately took the mat and went out
before all of them; so that they were all amazed and
glorified God, saying, "We have never seen anything
like this!"
Mark 10:35-45 James and
John
- James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him
and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us
whatever we ask of you."
And
he said to them, "What is it you want me to do for
you?" And they said to him,
"Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at
your left, in your glory." But
Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are
asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or be
baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?"
They replied, "We are able."
Then Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you
will drink; and with the baptism with which I am
baptized, you will be baptized; but
to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to
grant, but it is for those for whom it has been
prepared." When the ten heard
this, they began to be angry with James and John.
So Jesus called them and said to them,
"You know that among the Gentiles those whom they
recognize as their rulers lord it over them, and their
great ones are tyrants over them. But
it is not so among you; but whoever wishes to become
great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be
slave of all. For the Son of Man
came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life
a ransom for many."
