Exodus 20: 1-17
You need to know each commandment
Love God above all - love all people
Mt. 19:16-30
God must come first in your life
(Matthew 5-7)
Begins with Beatitudes (Blessings) Jesus' advice on how to live a blessed life
As a Christian you influence people around you in beneficial and good ways.
Jesus did not come to destroy the Jewish law but to interpret it properly
Evil actions begin with evil thoughts - therefore don't even get angry with someone
The same idea - thoughts lead to actions so don't have lustful thoughts
Some men would abandon their wives by divorcing them without good reason - husbands had no reason to divorce except for marital unfaithfulness
Be so trust worthy that all you need to say is 'yes' or 'no' and people will believe what you say.
Do not take revenge - be generous and willing to accommodate and forgive people
Anyone can love their friends – the real challenge is to love those who hurt you.
When you do these things do not do it to show off - make sure your motives are good - do it in secret
Money and possessions do not matter - only care about heavenly 'treasures' - compassion, love, serving God etc.
Do not worry - God loves you and will take care of you if you put your trust in him.
Do not pass judgement on other people.
If you ask God for your needs he will provide them
Do not take the easy options in life (Living selfishly)
Do what is more difficult (Standing up for what is right, following God)
You can tell what a person is like by their actions - if someone makes out they are good
- you can tell by the way they treat others whether or not they are.
Build your life on solid foundations (God and following God in your life). Not on weak foundations (Treating money/ power/ sex etc. as more important)
Lk 10: 25-37: Do not be prejudiced - help all in need
Anyone can be called to follow Christ/ If you are called - trust in God and follow
Have faith in God and go out to proclaim the Good news
Following Christ will involve some sacrifices
You must be Humble if you are to be a follower of Christ
Your actions must be meaningful - doing good when it costs nothing has no virtue
