Sporting Aims and Provisions

At St. Giles' we can offer a wide range of sporting activities in our P.E. programme as part of our balanced curriculum.

Within lessons the children are taught

Swimming (from year 3 upwards)
Gymnastics
Ball, Team games (Football, netball, rugby, hockey, cricket, rounders, tennis)
Athletics (including cross-country)
Outdoor education and Dance

The above lessons are taught to all children and boys and girls, and some 'taster' sessions which encourage the children to pursue the activity later at our Painsley High School or at clubs within the town .

We have school teams and compete with our neighbouring schools within an organised league over a wide area at swimming, football, cross-country, rounders, athletics, netball and cricket. The team practices are held at lunch time and after school, as are all the fixtures. Some fixtures are arranged for Saturday mornings.

At St. Giles' we arefortunate to have excellent, committed teachers who coach the children to a high standard, giving up hours of their time to encourage the children.

Considering the size of our school the level of performance is excellent and our record of success in all sports within the area is exceptional. More important, however, is the policy of encouraging all children to participate and enjoy representing our school in the outdoor.

We use the shared facilities at our neighbouring school, whilst we take advantage of the local South Moorland Leisure Centre, and our Painsley High School indoor and outdoor facilities. At school we have a small but intensively used multi-purpose hall, small grassed area and playgrounds.

Great emphasis has been placed on building links within the town for keen participators to continue the coaching at a higher level at local clubs when they leave St. Giles'.

All of the school teams have kit sponsored by local businesses which not only relieves pressure on our school budget but also strengthens the community links within the town, at the same time keeping a smart, well-turned out appearance which is a credit to the school.
