Administrative Map of the UK - Straightfoward large scale map of towns and counties in the UK.

Altapedia Online - Contains key information on every country in the world. Each country profile provides facts and data on the geography, climate, people, religion, language, history and economy for students of all ages.

Amazon Adventure - A virtual trip down the Amazon to find its mysterious source. Along the way you'll meet wildlife and people, and even get the chance to chat with someone who is actually there.

Arctic Circle - The Arctic waste is no empty space and this dedicated site shows why. Photos, history, maps and studies of Arctic ecology give a great insight into these northerly climes. You'll even find a virtual classroom too.

BBC Education: GCSE Bitesize Revision - Read the tips here, in books and on the television - then check what you know with their Test Bites section.

Dan's Wild Wild Weather Page - an Interactive Weather Page for Kids. The fun place for kids to learn about the weather and how it is predicted. See satellite pictures of the Earth or if you have a question, just ask Dan!

Ecosystem - This home page is a link to a wealth of useful info on all aspects of the environment. It's still under construction but should soon be the ultimate guide to going green!

Environmental Organization WebDirectory - Some features are scattered through this excellent directory of environmental resources, but it's largely a well-organised, easy-to-use collection of links. The focus is on the US, but there's a goodly number of international and European resources listed, too.  

Flags of All Countries - Small pictures of the flags of every nation in the world.

Global Online Adventure Learning - Learn about science, technology and nature through accounts of current gung-ho adventures. Accompanied by maps, news, links and photos. Site updated as each new shark attack/ mountain climb occurs. Spiffing.

How Far Is It? - Calculates the as-the-crow-flies distance between any two cities in the world, and then displays them for you on a map! Also features a travel guide to Bali, naturally.

Live from Antarctica 2 - Now this is one cool site. Find out what it is like to live in one of the world's wildest places with regular updates from a team who are still out there.

Magellan Geographix - Free online atlas with mostly excellent maps of continents, regions, countries and cities. More maps available to buy.

Mapmaker, Mapmaker, Make Me a Map - If planet Earth is a sphere, how do people make maps of it on flat pieces of paper? What is the azimuthal equidistant, and does it hurt when you stub your toe on it? Come to this page to find answers to these and any other map-related questions that may have been troubling you.

NASA - Slick, colourful, informative and exciting, Nasa's site is a high-quality project. Everything you could want to know about the agency and its space programmes is here, and a lot more. You can find amazing pictures, planetary information, history, live mission coverage, educational resources - all shot through with a dose of The Right Stuff. 

NGS - National Geographic Online - National Geographic magazine online plus the Geographic's Traveller Magazine and background and previews on National Geographic television features. Great-looking site with excellent content. Even if you wouldn't subscribe to the real thing, you should check this out.

Netspedition Amazon - Using a laptop computer and a satellite phone link, explorers from Imperial College, London, relayed each stage of their jungle trek back to their colleagues. You can enter the Amazon by following the team's travel log, getting access to butterfly and limnological (lake and river) surveys, a photo archive and audio and video information.

Perry-Casta�eda Library Map Collection - Superb map collection of the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to standard political maps of most countries and many regions and cities of the world, it includes relief maps, an excellent selection of historical maps, and maps of current political interest.

Storm Chaser - You've seen Twister, now meet the real storm chaser. Learn a bit about tornados and look at some extraordinary photographs. 

The Arab World - Facts, figures, commentary and basic maps, mostly abstracted from the CIA World Factbook, covering all the principal countries of the Arab world.

The Aurora Page - The Aurora (Northern Lights) is one of the most beautiful and mysterious phenomena on Earth. Some of the mystery is explained here, with an excellent collection of articles and references, ranging from general introductions to scientific papers. But the beauty remains, in the collection of stunning pictures. 

The Globe Program - Environmental science organisation for kids. Involves a network of school children, teachers and scientists co-operating via the Internet on research and environmental observation projects. Visit to find out more. 

The World Factbook - If you want bare facts and statistics about all the countries of the world, come here. Population, land use, economy, climate, birth rate, literacy levels, defence, the lot. Not surprising when you know it was compiled by the CIA. Loads of maps.

US Geological Survey - Well-written and nicely-presented features, and a huge quantity of data are the key features of this excellent resource from the US Geological Survey. It's not all about the US, though for obvious reasons many of the resources concentrate on America. There's plenty to keep the most enthusiastic rock-head happy, though.

Understanding Earthquakes - This animated site has quizzes, advice and historical accounts about earthquakes, as well as links to other earthquake sites on the Internet. More historical than geographical in its information. 

United States Thematic Maps - Smallish but fascinating collection of simple maps illustrating American social statistics in agriculture, education, households, income, population and youth.

World Surfari - This superb site, set up by 11-year-old Brian Giacoppo , takes you to a different country each month. And don't forget to leave a message for someone on the other side of the world!

Weathering the Changes - An educational website written by teachers and matched to the National Curriculum KS2 and 3. It combines science, the weather, energy, geography and electricity on the net. Features a range of fascinating projects that develop pupil's IT skills and understanding of the Internet. You can take a virtual tour of National Grid Environmental Education Centres or watch recorded footage of wildlife activity. There are plenty of worksheets too.

High Ash Farm Field Study Centre - Site describing residential centre in the Staffs Moorlands used by schools from around the country. Downloadable photos and drawings, examples of artwork and poetry and an opportunity to e-mail the animals.
