Basic Spanish For the Virtual Student
- This is an excellent guide to basic Spanish, although it is more suited to the more
serious student who has a basic understanding of general grammatical concepts. Great
vocabulary lists of essential words.
Bonjour - RealAudio files take you
through the basics of conversational French.
Deutsch Lernen Jetzt - For those intent on
mastering German, these pages offer a great way to practise. Focusing mainly on reading
skills, Jetzt offers authentic German texts for young people which aim to inject a bit of
fun into the learning process. And that can't be a bad thing, can it?
Foreign Language for Travelers (sic) -
Read and listen to handy phrases in 46 different languages. Translates between any two
languages, not just English. Great idea, superbly executed. Just hope you have your
computer handy next time you need to ask a Hungarian haberdasher if he accepts credit
cards.
Francais
pour Voyageurs - Although this is a guide essentially for travellers, this is a superb
aid for those doing GCSE level French. It has good vocabulary lists and the added extra of
the quiz option for when you think you know the words.
France a la carte - The educational site
of the French Embassy's Cultural Department in the UK.
French-English
Dictionary - Look up words in either language in a simple dictionary containing about
75,000 terms.
Internet Dictionary Project - These Spanish,
Italian, German, French, Latin, and Portuguese dictionaries come courtesy of the Internet
Dictionary Project which enables you to contribute to in order to expand them. It is still
in a formative stage and dictionaries in other languages are still under construction.
Internet Handbook of German
Grammar - An excellent reference book for those with a prior knowledge of German
grammar, such as A-level and University students.
TF1 - Don't panic - this site has nothing to do with
Chris "El" Evans. It's a Web site for those with at least a slight grasp of the
French language and offers a wealth of resources courtesy of the French television
channel, TF1. News, video and audio clips, all in French, offer a great chance to practise
and learn from interesting current affairs material.
Tecla - Texts in
Spanish - Tecla is a joint venture between London University's Birkbeck College and
the Spanish Embassy. The texts, are organised alphabetically by subject, from agriculture
to tourism.
