Drama

There is a tradition of outstanding drama at Painsley often manifested in the production of highly entertaining summer plays:

1992 "Twice Knightly", 1994 "Blackpool Rock", 1995 "Hales Hall", 1996 "Gods and Girdles", 1997 "Ladies in Spain".

Music

Music makes an enormous contribution to the cultural life of the school.  In December, the combined forces of the choirs, orchestra, recorder and guitar groups help to entertain the guests at the Senior Citizens' Party and produce a Christmas Concert for parents on two consecutive evenings.

The orchestra and recorder group join forces with our feeder Primary Schools to present a "Pyramid Concert" as a biennial event.

The orchestra is usually invited to perform at the Cheadle and District Schools' Music Concert at the Victoria Hall in Hanley.  The orchestra also provides music at the school Christmas Fayre in November and at the Presentation Evenings held annually.  The orchestra has entertained crowds with a varied programme of concert favourites at numerous events including the Alton Garden Fete, the opening of Somerfields, Leek & District Arts Clubs etc.

Each week several hundred pupils rehearse at lunchtimes and after school, taking part in a variety of extra-curricular activities.

In addition to this, pupils have access to three purpose-built practice rooms during their free time and after school, so that they can work individually or in small groups.

We employ an excellent team of Peripatetic Tutors from the Staffordshire Music Service offering tuition in all Strings, Brass, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Oboe and Drum kit.  Around 120 pupils are currently learning orchestral instruments using this facility.

"Results are above the local and national averages"
