Careers EducationCareers Education in our Pastoral Curriculum begins in Year 9 in order to help pupils when choosing their option course. Apart from our own careers staff, Careers Officers from many organisations regularly visit the school to talk to pupils in Years 10 and 11. Valuable help to prepare for interviews is given to our pupils during Careers Education. The whole range of educational, professional and vocational advice is offered enabling the pupil to make the best possible choice of career. An annual Careers Convention is held for the benefit of pupils and parents. There is a Careers Library open to pupils at lunchtime and after school. Pupils are encouraged to use a wide range of literature, videos and computer software which is available. A Careers Officer visits the school to interview each pupil during Year 11 and parents are invited to attend. Pupils in Years 10 and 11 take a careers module which aims to identify their skills and aspirations. All pupils have an opportunity to participate in Work Experience at the end of Year 10 and are able to choose placements from a wide range of commercial, industrial and public service organisations and businesses. Pupils opting for further education after Year 11 are given every assistance in choosing the most suitable 'A' level / Vocational course. Pupils in Year 11 are interviewed by a senior member of staff in January in order to identify strengths and weaknesses and set targets for the forthcoming G.C.S.E. examinations. |
