Readings
A reading from the prophet Isaiah (50:6)
I bared my back to those who beat me. I did not stop them when they insulted me, when they
pulled out the hairs of my beard and spat in my face.
By suffering for us, Jesus not only provided us with an example for us to imitate. He
blazed a trail and if we follow it, life and death are made holy and take on a new
meaning. (Vatican II)
Bidding Prayers
Lord Jesus, we remember that you were troubled by sadness and fear in the Garden of
Gethsemane: help anyone who is worried or anxious today. Lord, hear us.
Lord Jesus, we remember that one of your friends betrayed you: help our friendships
always to be honest and genuine. Lord, hear us.
Concluding Prayer
We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you, because by your holy cross you have redeemed
the world.
Amen.

Readings
A reading from the prophet Isaiah (52:14)
Many people were shocked when they saw him; he was so disfigured that he hardly looked
human.
It is a great thing not be bothered about suffering - but only your own suffering. (Robert
Lynd adapted)
Bidding Prayers
Lord Jesus, we remember that you were deserted by all your followers when you were
arrested: be with anyone who feels lonely or without friends. Lord, hear us.
Lord Jesus, we remember that false witnesses accused you of things you had not done: we
pray for anyone who has been accused falsely or who in prison not for what they have done
wrong, but because of what they believe. Lord, hear us.
Concluding Prayer
I love you, Lord Jesus, my Love above all things. I repent with all my heart for having
offended you. Never permit me to separate myself from you again. Grant that I may love you
always, then do with me what you will. Amen.
Wednesday
25th March, 1st & 8th April
25th March is the Annunciation of Our Lord
Readings
A reading from the prophet Isaiah (53:2-3)
It was the will of the Lord that his servant should grow like a plant taking root in dry
ground. He had no dignity or beauty to make us take notice of him. There was nothing
attractive about him, nothing that would draw us to him. We despised him and rejected him;
he endured suffering and pain. No one would even look at him - we ignored him as if he
were nothing.
Where there is no love, pour love in, and you will draw out love. (St John of the
Cross)
Bidding Prayers
Lord Jesus, we remember that you were mocked, beaten and tortured: help us never to be
involved in bullying, but to show care and consideration for all people. Lord, hear us.
Lord Jesus, we remember that you suffered great pain: we pray for all who are in pain
because of sickness, that they may be comforted by you. Lord, hear us.
Concluding Prayer
Lord God, with the prayers of the Virgin Mary to help us, guide us through the
sufferings of this life to eternal happiness in the life to come. We ask this through
Christ our Lord. Amen.
Thursday
26th March & 2nd April
Mass at 12.20pm
Readings
A reading from the prophet Isaiah (53:4)
He endured the suffering that should have been ours, the pain that we should have borne.
WE all suffer for each other, and gain by each others sufferings; for man never
stands alone here, though he will stand by himself one day hereafter; but here he is a
social being, and goes forward to his long home as one of a large company. (Cardinal
Newman)
Bidding Prayers
Lord Jesus, we remember that you carried your cross: be with all those who have heavy
burdens of worry. Lord, hear us.
Lord Jesus, we remember that Simon helped you carry the cross when you because weak:
help us to see when people need help, and to give it as much as we can. Lord, hear us.
Concluding Prayer
May the Lord support us all this day long, till the shades lengthen and the evening
comes and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over and our work is done.
Then, in his mercy, may he give us a safe lodging and a holy rest, and peace at the last.
Father we ask this, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Friday
27th March and 3rd April
Readings
A reading from the prophet Isaiah (53:5)
Because of our sins he was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did. We are healed by
the punishment he suffered, made whole by the blows he received.
The demons did not crucify Jesus - it is you who have crucified him and crucify him
still, when you take pleasure in your sins.
(St Francis of Assisi)
Bidding Prayers
We pray for everyone who works to help the poor and needy, especially CAFOD, and for
those they help: may they be successful in all they do. Lord, hear us.
Good master, teach us to love you in our fellow human beings, teach us to serve you in
our sisters and brothers. Lord, hear us.
Concluding Prayer
By your sufferings, Lord, heal the wounds in our hearts. Let your tears be the source
of joy for us, and let your death give us life. Amen.
