Monday

Readings

A reading from the letter of Saint James (5:16)
Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you will be healed. The prayer of a good person has a powerful effect.

Happiness is not perfected until it is shared. (Jane Porter)

Bidding Prayers

Let us ask God to help us to forgive anyone who hurts or upset us.
Lord, hear us.

Let us ask God to fill our minds with his truth, so that we may not think evil or bitter thoughts.
Lord, hear us.

Concluding Prayer

Heavenly Father,
we ask that your love will surround us
your care protect us,
and that we shall know your peace at all times;
for Jesus’ sake.
Amen.

Tuesday

Readings

A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians. (13:4-7)
Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail.

Love your neighbour - even when he plays the trombone. (Jewish Proverb)

Bidding Prayers

Let us pray for anyone who feels unloved or uncared for. May we be friends to those who feel they have no friends. Lord, hear us.

Let us thank God for all our friends, especially those who live far away from us, or who have left school. Lord, hear us.

Concluding Prayer

The Father’s love enfold us,
the grace of Christ uphold us,
the Holy Spirit guide us;
one God to walk beside us.
Amen.

Wednesday

4th & 11th June

Readings

A reading from the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians (12:4-6)
There are different abilities to perform service, but the same God gives ability to all for their particular service. The Spirit’s presence is shown in some way in each person for the good of all.

We do not have Jesus with us in the body, but we do have our neighbour, and as far as love and loving service are concerned, that is the same thing. (Saint Teresa of Avila)

Bidding Prayers

Let us pray that we may be able to see the goodness in everyone. Lord, hear us.

Let us pray that we may respect other people, and never try to use anyone just to please ourselves. Lord, hear us.

Concluding Prayer

Heavenly Father,
you sent your Son to live among us.
Help us to see him in others
and treat everyone we meet
as if we were meeting Christ himself,
our living Lord.
Amen.

Thursday

5th & 12th June
Mass at 12.25pm

Readings

A reading from the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians (6:19-20)
Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God; he bought you for a price. So use your bodies for God’s glory.

Do not worry about what you own - think instead about what you are. (Pope St Gregory)

Bidding Prayers

Let us pray that we may respect our own bodies and treat them as a gift from God, to be taken care of. Lord, hear us.

Let us pray that we may be able to understand what is really important in relationships - love and caring - not just what we can get out of people. Lord, hear us.

Concluding Prayer

All-powerful God,
you do not want to us be selfish
but always to be sharing
our things and our selves.
Help us to forget our own selfishness
so that we may remember your will
by serving and helping others.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Friday

6th & 13th June

Readings

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Colossians (3:20-21)
Children, it is your Christian duty to obey your parents always, for that is what pleases God. Parents, do not irritate your children, or they will become discouraged.

We call God ‘our Father’ and Mary our Mother not because families are always perfect, but because God is unending love.

Bidding Prayers

Let us thank God for our families and everyone who cares for us. Lord, hear us.

Let us pray for anyone who is unhappy or who has difficulties at home - may God help them to get through difficult times. Lord, hear us.

Concluding Prayer

God, the Father of us all,
you have created families and love of every kind.
Give us courage
to listen to each other and to learn,
and grant us the gentle blessing
which a home can give.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
