Paintings of Vermeer - Contains extensive links to other sites.

WebMuseum, Paris  - Large index of artists.

Gower Pictures -  Designed for non-specialists who are involved in teaching Art at key stages 2 and 3. Lots of links to other sites.

SchoolArt - Comprehensive art support service for teachers and schools. projects, lessons and techniques. Modest subscription charge.

Bushey Meads School Art Gallery - Real pupils' work from a secondary school showing examples of painting, printing and sculpture.

Art Daily - A comprehensive art newspaper combining international listings and reviews (you can see what's on anywhere, be it Birmingham or Baltimore) with an informed overview. Brush up on your art history in the Milestones section, and check out the 3D art for images of great feats of construction such as the Egyptian pyramids.

Art Guide - This site is a must for any art fan, giving you details of hundreds of exhibitions and galleries throughout the country - so you needn't miss a decent one again, wherever it may be.

ArtsEdNet - This site was developed by the Getty Centre for Education. It is an electronic resource that's designed for the US arts education community. Lesson plans, a number of paintings as well as reference tools can be found here.

Crayola - Crayons. We've all used them, we've all lost them, we've all broken them in half. But we haven't all dedicated an entire Web site to them. Well these people have. And from a history of the crayon to stain removal tips they do a damn fine job.

Eyes on Art - This site leads you through the world of art, giving you an on-the-spot tutorial and allowing you to browse through some of the finest pieces around. You can even build up your own virtual gallery for easy access to your favourite paintings - and you thought you'd never have your own Van Gogh!

Graphic Maps - A collection of cartographic images and flags. Lacking in detail, but handy if you need simple graphic images of countries, continents and political maps.

Royal Academy of Art - Check out their new official Web site for information on current exhibitions and latest Academy news. A very simple design lacking in inspiration - ironic considering these people are supposed to be artists.

Salvador Dali Virtual Museum of Art - A surrealist's hot spot. Put together by an obviously dedicated fan, this Virtual Museum is very well laid out and contains a lot of Dali's paintings which you can view on a small scale or in detail. However, it may take a long time to download.

The Making of Myths - Mythopoeia - Gorgeous to look at and quite informative,  this is an artistic take on the making of myths.

World Wide Arts Resources - Exhaustive art resource site offering everything except sobriety. "Over 7800 artists and over 100,000 other arts resources have been registered - from happening, groovin', contemporary art events to traditional planar exhibitions and way out 3-D cyber galleries - you'll find it here!"
