Lord thank you for the privilege of living in a country where there is free speech, where we can speak our minds and stand up for our beliefs. Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

We pray for those who live in countres where they have to to hide their beliefs or risk persecution.
Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

Concluding Prayer

Holy Spirit of light and truth,
help us to understand
the causes of so many peoples' suffering.
Open our eyes
to the wrongs and injustices in the world;
deepen our concern
for the old, the poor, and the handicapped;
and stir in us all
a burning sense of responsibility for one another,
as servants of Jesus Christ our Lord.

‘But alas for you who are rich; you have had your time of happiness. Alas for you who are well fed now; you shall go hungry.'

Lord God, the refuge and strength of your people in every time of need, we pray for those for those who persecuted for their religious faith or their political opinions. Give them the strength to endure their sufferings.

Help organisations like Amnesty international who struggle to help and support those who are prisoners of conscience.

Lord Jesus, there are so many governments around the world who treat their own people with disrespect, who persecute individuals simply because they refuse to follow their unjust leaders or their laws. Help those who live in such circumstances to persevere in their struggle for freedom. Lord hear us. Lord graciously hear us.

May just governments rise up and help those who have rights taken from them to find their freedom.
Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

Heavenly Father, many people throughout the world have to endure unjust imprisonment and even torture. Help them to survive their suffering.
Lord hear us. Lord graciously hear us.

In many places, people are beaten and subjected to horrendous pain in order to punish, intimidate or extract false confessions. Bring forward the day when they will be able to live in a country where justice rules.
Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

We pray for all who suffer from poor work conditions - whose life is little better than slavery. May the rights of workers be respected in all countries. Lord hear us. Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for the relatives of all who are imprisoned, justly or unjustly, that as they serve their own sentence Christ may be their comfort.
